Barcelona the Incessant
I woke up this morning and got to my usual perusing of internet websites. It would have been just another morning had it been for a headline on skysports linking Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona. I thought these guys just will not quit. It is not unusual for a club to put immense pressure on another club through the media and other means just to get their hands on their target player. But i have not seen such show of aggressive marksmanship as it hardly ever happens. Even when Real Madrid wanted Ronaldo, the pressure was released shortly after Sir Alex Fergurson made a comment. But in this case Arsene Wenger has declared he has no intention to sell and he has turned down massive bids from the catalan giant. So whats the deal Barca?
I really cannot understand why Barca even needs him. They have some of the best midfielders in the world in Iniesta and Xavi and some of the best utility players in any league. Their striking force is second to none: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Villa, Lionel Messi. They play a 4-3-3 formation with one midfielder has a central defensive midfielder (CDM) and two midfielder who push up and play almost as attackers. I am often confused as to where Cesc would fit. I really cannot see him displacing Xavi or Iniesta, nor him playing as a CDM or even more unlikely as a striker. I personally think this is a case of footballing greed. Fabregas will definitely be unsettled this season. I am sure he loves Arsenal to death, but he has a chance to go home and play for his childhood club. If I had to choose between dreary old England and colorful Spain, I know where I would definitely be.
Xavi and Iniesta are the heart and soul of Barcelona, remove them and Barcelona falls apart. I kid you not. Check out their highlights.
